Donate a Book, Get a Museum Ticket within February 19-23
In regard to the Book Gifting Day within February 19-23 the “Book Bank” program will be implemented in capital Yerevan by “Flashmob Division” NGO. Based on this program those wishing to visit a museum will have to gift a book (fiction or scientific) to the museum and get a ticket in return. The books should feature the name and the signature of the person who donates the book. This is important because upon the completion of the program the will be able to learn which library eventually shelters their book.

Arab Art Exposition Opened in National Gallery
Within the framework of Kuwait Culture Days (currently held in Armenia) an exposition of contemporary Arab art was opened in the National Gallery. The exposition entails pictorial works, samples of Arab calligraphy as well as images depicting modern Kuwait including ancient huts and huge skyscrapers. Kuwait Culture Days are held within February 3-10 and are organized within the framework of the agreement regarding the cooperation in the sphere of the culture between the two countries.

Iranian Movie Week to Be Held in Armenia
Mehran Shiravand, the Head of the Culture Center under the Iranian Embassy in Armenia, said Iranian movie week will be held in Yerevan on February 4-10. The movies will be displayed in the area adjacent to the Blue Mosque in Yerevan. For the majority of Armenians the latter appears to be the symbol of Iranian culture. The movies will have titles in Russian. The entrance is free of charge.

Gor Sujyan to Represent Armenia in Eurovision Song contest 2013
Lead singer of Dorians band and presently the most popular Armenian rock artist Gor Sujyan will represent Armenia in Eurovision Song contest 2013. Gor Sujyan was selected internally by the Eurovision Production Team of Public Television of Armenia. The song, which Gor Sujyan will perform at the contest, will be chosen on March 2. Eurovision Song contest 2013 will be held on May 14-18 in Malmo, Sweden.

“Armenian Carpet Art in the 17th-19th Centuries” Exposition Opened in History Museum of Armenia
“Armenian Carpet Art in the 17th-19th Centuries” permanent exposition featuring 45 carpets was opened in the History Museum of the Republic of Armenia. The exhibition displays almost all types of Armenian carpets, including armor-bearer type carpets, dragon carpets, carpets with cruciform ornaments, carpets with Russian patterns and so on. The goal of the exposition is to demonstrate the peculiarities of Armenian carpet weaving, the variations of its styles and the types of ornaments.

Yerevan State Puppet Theater to Partake in Drama Theater Festival in Belarus
Yerevan State Puppet Theater after Hovhannes Tumanyan will take part in the festival of drama theaters that will take place in Mogilev, Belarus. The festival will be held in March. At the festival the theater will present the performance “Flight over the City” staged by Narine Grigoryan. All the expenses in regard to the theater’s participation in the festival are covered by the festival organizers. The theater is also invited to partake in theater festivals in Indonesia, Argentine, Turkey, Bulgaria and Morocco.

Michel Legrand to Perform in Armenia Next Year
French musical compose rand pianist Michel Jean Legrand who is the author of musical compositions of over 200 movies might have a concert Armenia next year. Michel Legrand who is proud of his Armenian roots said that he doesn’t manage to often visit his motherland and therefore wants to perform his new musical composition in Armenia. It’s devoted to victims of the Armenian Genocide. According to the composer, it’s very likely the concert will be titled “Armenia’s Requiem.”

“When the book finds its artist” dedicated to the 500th anniversary of Armenian book printing exhibition was launched in Hovhannes Tumanyan House Museum. Armenian President Serge Sarkisian, Armenian Minister of Culture Hasmik Poghosyan and Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan were present at the opening. President Sarkisian got acuqainetd with the exhibition and museum pieces. “When the book finds its artist” exhibition is the joint project of five major cultural strcutures. They are the House Museum of Hovhannes Tumanyan, the National Gallery of Armenia, the House Museum of Yeghishe Charents, the National Library of Armenia and the Museum of Literature and Art after Yeghishe Charents.

Sasuntsi David Epic included into UNESCO’s list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity
Armenian medieval national epic “Sasuntsi David” (“David of Sassoun”) was included into UNESCO’s list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The decision was passed at the seventh sitting of the inter-governmental committee dedicated to the preservation of intangible cultural heritage. The sitting was held in Paris, France. “Sasuntsi David” is an Armenian national epic recounting David’s accomplishments. It dates to the 8th century. The epic was written only in 1873; before that it was available only in oral history.

The gala concert of the winners of the third republican student contest “We perform the songs of Arno Babajanyan” will be held on November 29. The concert will take place in the Concert Hall after Arno Babajanyan. The concert is organized by “Harmony” International Center of Russian Culture and the International Fund in memory to Arno Babajanyan as well as by the variety symphonic orchestra of the public broadcaster and the radio of the Republic of Armenia under the direction of Yervand Yerznkyan.

The joint concert of Canadian pianist Jan Miłosz Lisiecki and the Youth Orchestra of Armenia will be held on November 17 in Aram Khachaturian Concert Hall. Jan Miłosz Lisiecki was invited to Armenia by Sergey Smbatyan, Art Director and Chief Conductor of the State Youth Orchestra of Armenia. Jan Lisiecki is a classical pianist born in Canada to Polish parents. The young pianist has performed in the USA, Korea, China, Japan, France, Germany, England, Scotland, Italy, Guatemala, Germany, Polandand so on.

ReAnimania International Animation Festival 2012 is held under the slogan “Under One Umbrella” and correspondingly, an umbrella flashmob will be organized. The flashmob will be held on November 3 at Moscow Movie Theater. Young people will form up the word ReAnimania at “Moscow” Movie Theater and for around 15-20 minutes will open and close multi-color umbrellas. As to the festival itself, it will be held on November 3-9.

Upon the initiative of Adrenalin extreme sport association, STR sport club and ArmenTel BeeCross 2012 autocross racing championship will be held. The competitions will start at noon. The entrance is free. Anyone wishing to partake in the cross is welcome. The requirements to the participants are as follows – car, equipped with strengthened chassis and sport safety belts. The quad bikers should wear special sneakers and helmet. One of the ancient cities in the world and the current capital of the Republic of Armenia, Yerevan yesterday gloriously celebrated its 2794th anniversary. The start of “Erebuni-Yerevan” celebration events was given early in the morning when the watering trucks started washing all the Yerevan administrative districts. The celebrations continued until late at night. Throughout the day a myriad of events were held throughout the city. The expectations were more than exceeded.

Restored “Loves me, Loves me Not” Sculpture Back on Abovyan Street
The opening of the restored sculpture “Loves me, Loves me Not” was held on October 13 in the center of Yerevan with the participation of Yerevan Mayor. The original sculpture was carved by sculptor Teresa Mirzoyan and was placed on Abovyan Street from where the composition was stolen and never found. The restored sculpture is also standing on Abovyan Street. It is made of bronze by Mirzoyan’s daughter and sculptor Getik Baghdasaryan.

Compass Boy Band will represent Armenia at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2012, which will be held on December 1, in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The band was chosen out of 17 young contestants upon the decision of the professional jury as well as the audience and spectators. Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2012 will be held on December 1 in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Contestants from 12 countries will partake in the contest; Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Belgium, Georgia, Israel, Moldova, The Netherlands, Russia, Sweden and Ukraine.

Already for three years in a row Areni Fest Foundation is organizing the “Areni Wine Festival,” which has become a traditional event for Armenians. The program of Areni Wine Festival 2012 includes opening ceremony, professional wine-makers’ exhibition-fair, homemade wine-maker’s exhibition-fair and cheese producers’ exhibition-fair. Contests will as well be held within the festival. The contests include “Armenia in your eyes” best wine label contest (graphic-design), “Gold Keg 2012” prize for the best wine among the best wine-producers, homemade wine producers’ contest, excursion programs, carpet exhibition and national music, dance, games and theatrical performance.

The fourth pan-Armenian festival of traditional barbecue will be held in Akhtala, Armenia, on September 8 with an estimated huge number of guests. The official opening of the festival will take place at 2 pm after the festival’s competition program is over. 13 local restaurants, regional restaurants as well as individuals will partake in the fest. According to the Chairman of Development and Preservation of Armenian Culinary Traditions NGO the barbecue will not be given for free; it will be sold.
